2 27 13 Wednesday

Tomoka SP again.
We’re out of the Orlando area and back at Tomoka on our way to Palatka, for an RV gathering. For me it will be an intelligence gathering mission. I'm finding that almost any question that I have, I can get it answered, given a medium sized group of RV'ers. The two most relevant questions being recommended camping areas, in places you've never been, and any technical items on an RV.
Sunday we start our trek up the East Coast. It should be an interesting trip, with all the history encompassed in the cities along the way. This will be my second time in South Carolina since July of 45...I should have more pics now as we are getting away from the urban areas.
Today's pics are of a little Ghost Crab and ,I think a Little Blue Heron. (there is a small Egret that I can't tell apart)

Monday 2 18 2013

An orange juice tree.....Where are the cartons????  Yesterday we were in the back country orange grove area.  They pile the trucks so full that on tight corners, some always roll off.  After several trucks, the edge of the road is orange.

Sunday Feb 17 2013

We had freeze warnings here last night and snow in N Fl.....The natives were twiterpated.  Cold today but warm again by Tuesday.  We'll be in the Orlando area for one more week and then start slowly heading for the Coast, and North..  The pictures are of a goldfish that must have weighed 15 pounds, and Mortimer our guard Flamingo...

   Thursday  2 14 13
A cold, rainy, day in Fl. Good thing we laid in a goodly supply of books in Daytona.  Their library had a used book store in the building...Hard backs $1. paperbacks 3? $1  we got a box full.
Below is Charlie from Tomoka SP.  Charlie is 2.  That is scotch tape on his mouth. (to keep it shut)....Some of the road side food shops here advertise "gator bites"....I have a vision of folks paying a dollar and they stick your hand in a tank full of baby Alligators???
     stay warm and well,  Jay

   Wed 2 13 13
           Kissimmee SP Fl.
Interesting Park.  Old growth Long Leaf Pine and Live Oaks with water on one side.  All manner of wild life.  They have cougars and alligator, which we are still looking for. We saw a "Cougar crossing" sign on the way in.  I can't seem to decide whether to keep my eyes up in the trees, watching for big cats on down on the ground looking for snakes.  It makes walking in the wooods interesting if nothing else. The two Sandhill Cranes in the pictures, came wandering into the campsite and wanted lunch and weren't satisfied with just sunflower seed.  I lost the top of my sandwhich trying to get a really close pic....Oh well. The last pic SEEMS to show why my hair is so thin...and I'm going with it..They were great fun to see up close and hand feed...There is no cell service here so we are limited to the WIFI at the camp store.

   Be Well,  Jay

  Monday  2 11 13

Out of Tomoka SP today and off to Kissimmee Lake Sp, South of Orlando.  The weather is holding nicely.  Our largest problem is that the State Parks are full every weekend and that makes planning difficult. We scored a gold mine in Daytona.  The public library has a huge used book Dept, run by the friends and the prices are right..  We've loaded up.   The 4 vultures have been following me for days....
The dragon and the knight are made entirely out of Logos.  It boggles my mind how you would design something like that....a car ,house or spaceship, fine, but a 20 foot dragon???
    Be well,  Jay

Tomoka State Park, Ormond Beach Fl.

Our plans got changed, so we are here for a week. We are located on a salt marsh, off of the Halifax River. This morning I as out early, checking out anything that was happening. Apparently it was my morning for aquatic mammals . I watched a Manatee feeding in the shallows for about an hour. No useable pictures as they only come up for air briefly. I did get a shot of a Porpoise fin, as he passed by, chasing breakfast. Watched an Osprey catch a fish and fly off with it,..impressive. The picture is trash however. There are tons of birds of prey here. I've seen at least 10 Bald Eagles, but none of them fishing.
There aren't many Oak trees here, so instead of listening to the squirrels dropping acorns on the roof, we have them dropping Palm Berries, day and night.
